My Bettas

The Boys

Jaa
Jaa is my newest boy - a handsome plakat, he lives in a 2.5 gallon lit and planted tank with 3 Otocinclus. He is a cheeky boy who likes to blow bubblenests - possibly as he knows he will soon be allowed to spawn, with one of the young ladies once they've had a little longer to mature. His name is Thai for 'be strong' as he was very shy at first.

Thai
Thai was the 2nd male I purchased. He is a very handsome and loving veiltail with very narcissistic tendencies. A vain young chap who insists on showing off to any female in range and flexing to every male he sees through his barrier. He shares a divided 4 gallon tank with Cereus.

Cereus
A very lucky boy... Cereus (an anagram of rescue) originally belonged to my sister, but soon found himself in need of a new home after making rather a nuisance of himself whilst sharing a tank with her favourite guppies. We made space for him and he has settled in nicely. He likes to sleep resting on the support bar of his enclosure.

The Ladies

Red Devil
Red for short, the Devil is a very feisty red lady with a rather short temper. She is a stunning colour despite the small amount of healing fin damage. Unfortunately since her first spawn attempt she has become a little unsociable with conspecifics so now lives in my sisters Bi-Orb with the guppies.

Persephone
Only 2 months old when she joined us, Persephone is something of a mystery as we have no idea of her lineage. She is a double tail pastel, with very slight extension to some of her rays (mostly caudal), and we hope to spawn her with Jaa in a couple of months once she has matured.

Lilaea
Lilaea is a quiet double tail light blue female, possibly a spawn sister to Persephone as they were purchased at the same time, are the same age and both are double tail. We are hoping she will grow to be the same beautiful colour as Nemo. She lives in a planted 4 gallon aquarium with Persephone, Fai and the three Corydoras.

The Tankmates

Corys
The ladies tank is also home to four Corydoras catfish. Two Corydoras aeneus (Bronze corys) and a Corydoras paleatus (peppered cory). I adore watching these adorable little characters playing and feeding.

Otos
Jaa shares his home with 2 Otocinclus affinis and 1 Otocinclus vittatus. They are very diligent workers and keep his tank spotlessly clean and algae free. I hope to get more Otocinclus sp. sometime in the future.

In Memoriam

Nemo
Nemo was one of my first bettas, along with Turq and the Red Devil. She was an easy going lady who used to share a tank with Red, but since a fall out over Thai moved in with the three younger ladies until she was moved to the hospital tank with a worm infection, where she died on 31/05/06. She was a beautiful royal blue, but was missing a pectoral fin, hence her name.

Turq -
Turq was my very first betta. Unfortunately he hadn't been with me long when he passed away. I still don't know why. He gets a posthumous mention here as he is the reason all the others are mentioned here! We saw him in our local aquatic centre and fell in love with him.

Fai
Another stunning red lady. Fai was another youngster who joined us at just 2 months old. Unfortunately Fai succumbed to  looks like she will turn out to be a nice crowntail and already has very deep colour, which can only get more intense as she matures. She is also in line to be spawned with Jaa.
